A Healthier Us

Day 6 of a Healthier Us:  Summer’s began and for Geoff and I that means many things.  To begin, we were able to fence in our yard by simply adding gates to connect both of our neighbors’ fences to our house… lucky us!  We’ve finally started planning for Maximus’s birthday party July 28th, more details to follow.

With neither of us working, we decided our goal would be to implement a healthier lifestyle through healthy eating paired with exercise all while maintaining our $300.00 grocery budget.  In an effort to hold both of us accountable, I’ve decided to blog about this journey while Geoff will continue to blog about other adventures.

To begin our journey, Geoff and I signed up for My Fitness Pal, awesome site, it allows you to count calories, water consumption, and exercise!  My favorite feature is that the site tells you that if you continue eating and exercising as you are what your projected weight loss will be after four weeks.  The site allows me to have 1,400 calories a day and Geoff 2,210.  This is based on our current weight and our goal to lose one pound per week.  We plan to eat as many seasonal fruits and veggies as possible while still having some of our favorite foods!  My goal: blog about a meal, with accompanying pictures, at least once per week while using My Fitness Pal daily as a means of accountability.

Featured Meal Today-Lunch:
-½ cup of fresh green grapes
Calories: 55

-8 tablespoons of guacamole dip (avocado, lime juice, kosher salt, and tomato)
Calories: approx. 160

-1.5 serving of baked Tostitos
Calories: 180

-Individual pizzas:
Brigitte’s-Ortega tortilla, Ragu sautéed onion and garlic, Hormel turkey pepperoni, 2% mozzarella cheese, and jalapeños. Calories: 283
Geoff’s-Ortega tortilla, Sweet Baby Ray’s Sweet ‘n Spicy BBQ sauce, BBQ, and 2% mozzarella cheese.  Calories: 520

-2 cups of water

Hopefully you can learn something from us, whether it’s that you can eat healthy on a budget; enjoy your favorite foods in moderation; or that cooking and losing weight is possible, even for newlyweds!  Please feel free to comment, ask questions, or help us in our quest to get our healthy lifestyle back!

  1. I love My Fitness Pal! It's great. I hear you on 30s and how it changes weight loss. It used to be much easier to lose weight. Now my body doesn't respond the same way. Going (mostly) Paleo has helped me. Good luck with your journey!
