Our back to school post will be highlighting two trips the Brigitte and I took on our summer break. With the majority of wedding planning done, we have time to kick back, relax, and travel the open road.
In our first road trip adventure we travelled north to the great state of Pennsylvania for a friend's wedding. As we made our journey North Brigitte and I had two stops on our list. The first was the University of Virginia in Charlottesville. At UVA we visited 46 East Lawn, the spot where Kappa Sigma was founded.

After viewing the place where my fraternity began we went to Woodstock, VA to pay homage to Brigitte's sorority, Sigma Sigma Sigma. The Mabel Lee Walton House was a neat stop, I was impressed to see how this historic home was used to house a national organization and still retain much of its originality.

Once we reached our destination of Harrisburg, PA we settled in for the night and looked to our big day ahead. Upon rising we took a short drive over to Hershey. We found Hershey's Chocolate World to be a perfect fit for what we needed; entertaining and quick. The location had a lot of options to choose from, however we did the quick Chocolate Tour and received our free Hershey Kiss at the end. After grabbing a souvenir we headed back to Harrisburg for lunch. The Appalachian Brewing Company was a surprise hit. We enjoyed a great lunch and some brews with the groom and best man before the wedding.

The wedding itself was a blast, the ceremony at a park by the river was beautiful, and we had a great time at the reception afterwards.
For our return trip back South Brigitte decided to take another detour. This time the stop was Gettysburg, PA. Being a history teacher, I was defiantly in my element. As Brigitte and I drove around the town we were surrounded be battlefields, historical markers, and fellow historical enthusiasts.
After the conclusion of our road trip to PA we had a week break, then it was on the road again. Brigitte and I packed the car again and headed down to the beaches of Tampa, FL to see our friends.
Our friends we stayed with live a different life than the two teachers that visited them. Brigitte and I were accustom to early nights and set routines. We began our FL vacation with a call for a cab and a trip the local watering hole on the first night for some $1 drink specials. After surviving (barely) the first night we headed to the beach for some much needed R&R. After piling into the car we headed to Clearwater and had lunch at Frenchies Bar & Grill. I choose to partake in their signature grouper sandwich, Brigitte choose the signature rum runner. We concluded the first full day there with a traditional summer grill-out. The next day was highlighted with a pool volleyball game at the complex with some of the locals. We all learned a valuable lesson of making sure to pay attention if you sit near the pool with a volleyball game going on. After saying our goodbyes the next morning we headed back to SC, making sure to stop at Cracker Barrel for our traveling meal of salad and frozen mug sundae. The trips we took this summer offered a nice break from the regular and helped Brigitte and I get refreshed for the upcoming school year.
